Psy-trance only recently gained some appreciation in Namibia, mostly thanks to a group of people called “Wackazoo“. In South Africa, psy-trance has been around for a while. If you live in Cape Town, you’ve no doubt been invited to a “trance” party. Although called “trance” parties, the music found at these events is Psy-trance. Psy-trance originated from Goa Trance in the 90’s. Psy-trance can only be described as very repetitive (with songs usually lasting between 8 and 12 minutes) and very weird. It’s a sound that can easily be distinguished from other genres, as it has a very distinct “kick” used in most songs. Have a listen at the samples below to get an idea:

The “Best DJ in Namibia” poll is over!

I did a little investigation to try and find out who are the best DJs in the world. My conclusion is this.

“The Dj List” is definitely a good starting point. Here are the top ten DJs in the world, according to them:

Problem is, it takes into account overall votes. So, if you change your mind from year 1 to year 2, this isn’t really a good indication of who the best DJs are for a particular year. So, I turned to DJ Mag for exactly this. Votes are calculated yearly. Here are the results from 2007 and from 2006…

Club Velvet Lounge is open! And it has been for few months now. The club is owned by DJ Eddie, who also plays there every open night. Eddie has been in the dance scene for nearly twenty years now, and is probably Namibia’s number one DJ. Only the best can be expected! The club is extremely up-market. Strictly no under 21’s.
