WackaZoo was created about 2 years ago by a group of friends that wanted to give the youth of Windhoek a new experience with in the nightlife scene of Windhoek. They also have the point of view that if they truly want to have fun and go to the type of party that they enjoy, they should create it themselves. One of the organizers also feel very strongly about promoting Namibian dj’s that specialize in Psy trance and want to give them the exposure they deserve.

The style of party which WackaZoo specialises in is called Psychedelic trance parties with the genre of music being pre dominantly Psy trance with the different styles you get in it. Psychedelic trance is also often referred to as psytrance, which is a form of electronic music that was developed from Goa trance in the early 1990s when it first began hitting the mainstream. In some psychedelic trance circles and online communities, ‘Psychedelic’ is the preferred name for the genre as it provides an umbrella term for the many divergent styles including Goa, full on, dark, progressive and suomi.

Psychedelic trance generally has a fast tempo, in the range 135 to 150 BPM but has developed into numerous different styles within the genre all with their own range of tempos. The emphasis in psychedelic trance is placed strongly on purely synthesized timbres in terms of programming and lead melodies.

WackaZoo did their first party on the 15^th of June 2006 with a very underground feel to it. Since then they have hosted memorable parties such as:

WackaZoo’s aim as with all Party organizers are to fill their dance floors to the brim and to make new friends with each party. Allot of emphases is placed on their décor with Psychedelic images playing a very big role. This they made themselves in the beginning with the help of Karel Swanepoel. Due to the fact that they want to go bigger and better, they had to look for other options. This came in the form of Artscape. Carin which owns Artscape, does décor for big party’s like Vortex and Alien safari to name a few. WackaZoo has built up a beautiful friendship with them and therefore get the hottest décor you can get your hands on.

WackaZoo has also been a tool to bring dj’s together as a unit and helped create beautiful friendships among them. The Dj’s that regularly play at the WackaZoo party’s are:

This post will be slightly off the usual “DJ category”, but I think it’s still a worthy post, seeing as this band is so unbelievably awesome!

When I first heard their song “Serenade” i was totally blown away. What amazed me was not only the fact that they absolutely rock, but that they are from Johannesburg, South Africa! South Africa has produced many good bands (Seether, Tweak, Mean Mr Mustard etc). But there was something about “Crash Car Burn” that oozed a type of professionalism that I never thought was possible from a South African band. Don’t believe me? Watch the music video!

I just watched it again, and wow. The song and the music video still gives me goosebumps. I hope to see these guys live very soon. *hold thumbs*

A while back I had to make a short film. I chose to make it on the club scene. The movie was shot at Club London in Windhoek and shows Sergio in the mix and includes music by DJ and Producer Pierre Pienaar. You can watch the video here:

Unfortunately we were unable to record all the mixes. We did manage to record three DJ sets. But unfortunately, as a result of power loss, there are glitches in the mixes. I did my best to fade the different parts in seamlessly.

Party Pills have been around for a while now, but it only really hit South Africa and Namibia in the last year or so. The new “legal ecstacy” has raised much concern and has been approached with great skepticism. Firstly, what is BZP? For the party people, the question seems to be, is it really as good as E? And for the health fanatics, the questions seems to be, is it really safe? And for those afraid of the law, the question seems to be, is it really legal? Let’s try and answer each of these questions one at a time…

Is it really as good as E (Ecstacy)?
Simply put, yes. There has been numerous occasions where people even reported “rushing” on these pills. They are truly very strong and can last for a very long time. By reading some personal experiences of users online, I noticed one thing. Experienced drug users, didn’t think BZP was that hectic, whereas new-comers had a pretty intense experience. Simply put, it probably won’t replace the experience you had by doing real Ecstacy, but it can be a pretty good substitute.

Is it really safe?
So far there no one has died of the drug. There has been a few cases where people became quite sick. For example: Collapse Of Teenage Clubber Highlights Dangers Of New Drug.

But just because no one has died of the drug, does not make it safe. I recommend reading this article before ever trying these pills yourself. Here are some lines taken from the article that really blew my mind:

• “Hard Out Distributors said the pills were non-addictive and were registered with the Medicines Control Council (MCC). But a check with the MCC revealed that the registration numbers on the packaging did not correspond with its records.”
• “Meintjies said: “Piperazine is a de-worming remedy. It is used in the treatment of roundworm and threadworm infections. It is usually well tolerated, but can produce severe neurotoxicity with high doses.”"
• “Meintjies added: “Piperazine has been taken off the market in some European countries because of general concern about its safety.”"
• “Ajay Kalan of the Cape Town Station Pharmacy said the ingredients on the package were not indicated clearly enough and that active or primary ingredients needed to be specified in the list.”

Is it really legal?
I was unable to get a straight forward answer. Yes, the drug is banned in many countries, including the United States, Australia and in parts of Europe. However, I’ve come across a few things that might cause some concern. Firstly, a quick phone call revealed that Ephedrine, BZP or basically any other drug that is used for anything other than its intended use in Namibia, does in fact make it illegal. This means that if you buy Sinutab at a pharmacy and use it to “get high”, you’re breaking the law. The question then remains, what in fact is the intention of BZP? The packaging clearly states it is to provide a euphoric experience for the user. So, technically, you ARE using it for the intended purpose!

Conclusion
I think for the moment, you could probably get away with using it, but it won’t be long before the drug is banned, or restricted. Personally I would wait a while until clearer picture is shown. Right now, your safety is NOT guaranteed and personally, that is enough for me to stay away.
